Buying art supplies online is a great way to save money. An online art shop does not have the overhead physical stores have, so they can pass the savings onto the consumer. Usually online stores have more selection as well.

Physical stores have to pay for the building and the property they exist in. They also have to purchase their inventory from their suppliers ahead of time; an online store can order the supplies as they are ordered which saves the store money. An online art shop only has to pay for the domain name and the cost of maintaining the website making it easier for the store to offer lower prices.

Because physical stores have to have inventory on hand many of the smaller stores cannot afford to host a wide variety of supplies. Online supply stores can offer thousands more items and all their variations because they can wait until and order is received before they order it from their supplier. The online art shop can be as large as needed to display these items whereas a physical store can only fit so much inventory.
