Art Paint
Art paint can be made from several different substances. The difference is the medium in which the pigmentation binds to. Acrylic paint uses the same pigments as oil paints but the pigments are bound to a synthetic resin.
Oil paints dry more slowly than acrylics, leaving more time to work with the paint as it dries. Oil paints need thinners and solvents to dilute them and give them different textures. Sometimes these solvents and thinners can be quite noxious, so a large number of artists will use other types of art paint.
Watercolors are a popular choice for kids because they are easy to clean up and leave room for mistakes. Watercolors can be used on regular paper but then the paper becomes waterlogged and wrinkled. Watercolor paper is thicker and absorbs excess water without changing the texture of the paper.
